Johanne Maria Lauridsen's poetry book and papers, 1880-1920.

The collection includes 13 newspaper clippings, 9 loose leaves of handwritten poetry, two letters, one typed poem in English and a 10 leaf booklet of poems. Most of the items are in Scandinavian. One letter, opening with "Kjuse Broder" has been sent from Pleasant Grove, the other from Holsted. The English poem in the collection is entitled "On Going Home for Christmas." There are two poems not written by Johanne Lauridsen, called "Just Folks" by Edgar A. Guest and "Little Benny" by Lee Pape. There is a 1917 newspaper article, on the same page as a poem but deliberately included, called "Satan's Congratulation to the Kaiser."

Johanna Maria Lauridsen was born on June 15, 1867 in Mogelmose, Hjerting, Haderslev, Denmark (because of the Danish conflict with Prussia over Schleswig-Holstein at the time of her birth, another name listed for her birth place is Mogelmore, Schlesvig, Germany). She married Soren Sorenson on June 15, 1888 in Brorup, Ribe, Denmark. She passed away on July 11, 1923 in Farmington, Davis, Utah.
